Wearing contact lenses for the first time can feel a little scary, especially if you are not used to touching your eyes. But with the right steps and a little practice, it becomes very easy. In this blog, I will explain simple steps to wear contact lenses by yourself safely.
First of all, always wash your hands properly before touching your lenses. Use soap and dry your hands with a clean towel. This step is very important because dirty hands can cause eye infections.
Next, take your contact lens out of the case carefully and place it on the tip of your index finger. Make sure the lens is clean and not damaged. Also, check if the lens is not inside out. A correct lens should look like a smooth bowl, not with edges pointing outward.
Now, use your other hand to gently hold your upper eyelid so that you do not blink. With the hand holding the lens, pull down your lower eyelid. This helps in placing the lens easily without touching your lashes.
Slowly bring the lens close to your eye and place it gently on the center of your eye or slightly on the white part. Do not rush. Once the lens touches your eye, slowly release your eyelids and blink a few times. The lens will adjust automatically.
If you feel discomfort, remove the lens, clean it with lens solution, and try again. Never use water to clean your lenses because it is not safe. After wearing both lenses, check your vision in the mirror. If everything looks clear and comfortable, then you have done it correctly. In the beginning, it may take some time, but with practice, you will get used to it.
It is also important to remove your lenses properly at the end of the day. Always store them in a clean case with fresh solution. Do not wear lenses for too long, and avoid sleeping with them unless advised by a doctor.
